DENDROBIUM PHALAENOPSIS
DENDROBIUM PHALAENOPSIS
Dendrobium phalaenopsis, the Cooktown Orchid, is the historical name still used in the Vivariom collection for the orchid currently treated by Kew as Dendrobium bigibbum var. superbum. It belongs to the Dendrobium bigibbum complex of northeastern Australia and nearby regions. The plant is a cane-forming Dendrobium with conspicuous mauve-purple flowers and an epiphytic or lithophytic growth habit in warm tropical to subtropical environments. Its entry is a useful example of how familiar horticultural names can remain in circulation after scientific nomenclature has changed.
Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print showcases its long-lasting violet to magenta blossoms. A unique piece for flower lovers, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
