ALEXANDRITE
ALEXANDRITE
Alexandrite is a rare color-changing variety of chrysoberyl. Its remarkable optical behavior results mainly from chromium substituting within the crystal structure: the stone can appear green to bluish green in daylight or fluorescent light and red to purplish red under incandescent illumination because different light sources emphasize different parts of its absorption spectrum. Chrysoberyl has Mohs hardness 8.5, giving alexandrite excellent resistance to scratching. First identified in the Ural Mountains of Russia in the nineteenth century, gem alexandrite is also found in Brazil, Sri Lanka and parts of Africa.
Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print captures its rare ability to change hues, symbolic duality, and timeless mystery. A unique piece for gemstone lovers, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
