MOONSTONE
MOONSTONE
Moonstone is a gem variety of feldspar prized for adularescence, a floating bluish or whitish light that appears to move beneath the surface as the stone is turned. The effect is produced by light scattering from microscopic intergrowths or layers of feldspar phases formed during slow cooling. Moonstone has Mohs hardness around 6–6.5 and perfect cleavage, so it requires more care than harder gems such as corundum. Material has historically been mined in Sri Lanka and also occurs in India, Tanzania, Madagascar and other feldspar-producing regions.
Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print reveals its soft shimmer, symbolic intuition, and timeless mystery. A unique piece for gemstone lovers, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
