COLIAS CROCEA
COLIAS CROCEA
Colias crocea, the Clouded Yellow, is a migratory butterfly widespread across North Africa, southern Europe and western Asia. Its wings are rich yellow-orange with dark margins, although some females occur in a pale form. The larvae feed on legumes such as clovers and alfalfa. In warm regions the species can breed continuously, while farther north its presence depends largely on migration because it generally cannot survive severe winters. Strong seasonal movements can carry large numbers far beyond the main breeding range, making the clouded yellow an irregular but sometimes abundant visitor to northern Europe.
Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print showcases its vibrant golden-yellow wings edged with dark markings. A unique piece for nature lovers, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
