CROCOTHEMIS ERYTHRAEA
CROCOTHEMIS ERYTHRAEA
Crocothemis erythraea, the Scarlet Dragonfly, is a dragonfly distributed across Africa, the Mediterranean and large parts of western and southern Asia, with expansion into Europe. It inhabits warm ponds, lakes, reservoirs, canals and slow-moving waters. Mature males become intensely scarlet-red across much of the body, while females and immature males are typically yellow-brown. Adults often perch conspicuously near breeding water, making the contrast between sex, maturity and colour particularly easy to observe.
Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print captures its bright red abdomen, wide-set eyes, and clear veined wings in precise detail. A unique piece for nature enthusiasts, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
