EURYTIDES MARCELLUS
EURYTIDES MARCELLUS
Eurytides marcellus, the Zebra Swallowtail, is a North American butterfly recognized by its black-and-white striped wings and exceptionally long hindwing tails. Its distribution is closely linked to the pawpaw tree (Asimina triloba), the principal larval host plant. Caterpillars consume pawpaw foliage and can retain plant-derived chemical compounds that contribute to defense against predators. The species occurs mainly in the eastern United States and is often associated with woodland edges, river valleys and habitats where pawpaw grows. Seasonal generations can differ in size and tail length, with spring individuals often smaller than those emerging later in the year.
Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print showcases its elegant black-and-white striped wings and distinctive elongated tails. A unique piece for nature lovers, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
