SOMATOCHLORA METALLICA

Somatochlora metallica, the Brilliant Emerald dragonfly, is a metallic green dragonfly distributed across northern and central Europe into northern Asia. It inhabits sheltered standing or slow-flowing waters, often where tree cover creates shaded margins and muddy or peaty substrates. Adults are notable for their emerald-green bodies and bright green eyes; males patrol water margins while females may spend more time foraging away from the water. The species also illustrates how conservation status can differ by scale, from Least Concern broadly to Vulnerable on the British Red List.

Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print captures its metallic green sheen, bright emerald eyes, and translucent veined wings in precise detail. A unique piece for nature enthusiasts, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
