AMETHYST
AMETHYST
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, silicon dioxide, colored by iron-related defects in the crystal structure combined with natural irradiation. Like all quartz it has Mohs hardness 7 and commonly forms well-developed hexagonal crystals. Amethyst frequently grows inside cavities and geodes in volcanic rocks, where silica-rich fluids deposit quartz on the cavity walls over long periods. Major sources include Brazil, Uruguay and Zambia. Heating can alter its color, and some commercial citrine is produced by heat-treating amethyst, illustrating how closely related color varieties of quartz can be.
Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print reveals its deep purple brilliance, symbolic serenity, and timeless allure. A unique piece for gemstone lovers, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
