SMOKY QUARTZ
SMOKY QUARTZ
Smoky quartz is a brown to nearly black variety of quartz whose color develops when natural radiation interacts with aluminium-related defects in the crystal lattice. The resulting coloration can range from pale smoky gray-brown to very dark material traditionally called morion. Smoky quartz has Mohs hardness 7 and occurs in many geological environments, including granitic pegmatites and alpine-type fissures. Because the color is produced by radiation-induced structural changes rather than by a dense pigment, heating can lighten or remove it.
Presented as a refined naturalist plate, this art print reveals its translucent depth, symbolic grounding, and timeless elegance. A unique piece for gemstone lovers, collectors of scientific illustration, and interiors seeking elegance with meaning.
